NESTING DOLLS
I fell in love with Russian folk costumes once and for all. Their richness, detail, and deep cultural significance captivated me, and I wanted others to experience their beauty in a way that felt tangible and immersive—not just through a flat image, but in three-dimensional form. The matryoshka became the perfect canvas.

Unlike a painting, it can be held, turned in one’s hands, examined from every angle. It allows for a full appreciation of the costume’s front and back, its intricate patterns and textures coming to life in a way that static images simply cannot convey.
For children, a matryoshka is more than an object—it’s a toy, a companion, a vessel of tradition. Through play, they absorb this cultural heritage naturally, internalizing the beauty and symbolism of folk art. Of course, adapting certain costume elements to the rounded shape of the doll can be challenging, but that’s part of the thrill.
The constraints of the form push me to find creative solutions, making each piece a unique and exciting challenge.
